Transfer of Relics of Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin, Parents of St. Therese

Dear Friends of Carmel,

On Saturday November 16, the relics of the parents of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin, will be transferred in a solemn procession escorted by the Philadelphia Police Department from the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul to the Carmelite Monastery at 66th Avenue and Old York Road.  The solemn transfer is scheduled to begin at 2:30PM and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered in the Holy Spirit Chapel of the Monastery at 5 PM.

The relics will be available for veneration at the Carmel on Sunday, November 17 from 10AM to 4PM.  Thereafter, they will be available for veneration during those same hours on every first Sunday of the month, commencing December 1.

St. Therese, pray for us!

Blessed Louis and Zelie, pray for us!

  1. Thank you very much. Am I right in thinking that the first Sunday in December is December 1?

  2. Thank you for pointing that out! I will make the correction but I was posting directly from the information sent to me from someone at the Carmel - next time, I'll double-check my dates!

  3. Hello! I have gotten the run around from the cathedral and from the archdiocese who know very little about the relics. Arg- east coast people can be so rude and short! Hopefully you can help me. I'm looking to make the very long road trip to these relics for a special intention, so I wanted to get as much info as I could. Do you know if they are first class relics? Do you know what they all include? And also, does Carmel, or any one near by, have a guest house to stay at? Any information would be lovely!!! Could you email me at lisarae03@aol.com ? Thank you sister. -Lisa Rae

  4. Hi Lisa, I am certain that the relics are first-class and I neglected to mention that a relic of St. Therese will also be available for veneration. Are you planning to come to Philly for Magnificat Day or for the transfer of the relics? The Carmel does not have a guest house and while I don't know of one near Carmel, there are several hotels not too far from the Cathedral that are offering special rates to visitors attending Magnificat Day. In the meantime, I will ask around to see if anyone knows of other accommodations. I'm sure there are some bed and breakfast places in Philadelphia and perhaps some of the readers of this blog might know of some as well. I'm very sorry if you experienced rudeness but I like to believe that when that sort of thing happens, the grace that is in store for us will greatly outweigh an unpleasant experience, so I'm glad you have been persistent in trying to get answers. God bless and I will let you know what I find out just as soon as I can.
