TLM at Philadelphia's Carmelite Monastery

The annual summer novena to Our Lady of Mt Carmel begins tomorrow at the Carmelite Monastery of St Joseph and St Ann.  On Sunday July 13 the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered in the Extraordinary Form.  The celebrant will be Father Ronald Check.

The novena schedule for each night is Rosary followed by Litany at 6:45pm, sacred music and Mass at 7:30pm.  The Mass is offered in the Ordinary Form (with the exception of July 13th ) but it is celebrated ad orientem.  The Gloria, Sanctus, Pater Noster and Agnus Dei are chanted in Latin.

The Monastery is located at 66th Ave and Old York Road and off-street parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Carmel.  FYI the TLM tends to draw many people as does the Feast Day Mass on July 16.    Once the chapel reaches capacity the over-flow of the faithful can assist at the Mass via close circuit television in the public courtyard outside the chapel.  It is recommended that you arrive by 6:30pm in order to ensure a seat inside the chapel.

Feast of the Sacred Heart Missa Cantata at St. Adelbert's Church Philadelphia

The following are some images from tonight's Solemn Missa Cantata for the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  The Traditional Latin Mass took place at St. Adelbert's Church, a Polish-national parish in the city's Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.  The celebrant was Father Harold McKale, parochial vicar of another Port Richmond parish just a block away - The Church of The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father McKale is also one of the priests in the rotation of those who offer the TLM at Holy Trinity Church on Sundays and  other principal feasts.

Many of those in the congregation tonight were parishioners of St. Adelbert's who do not ordinarily assist at the TLM.

If you are looking for modest head-coverings that convey reverence and devotion, the blog administrator humbly recommends this company,.  The lace stretch head-coverings that tie are something every woman who wants to veil with ease will appreciate.  There is nothing worse than a veil that slips off your head or an elastic band that makes you feel as if your head is in a vice.  Liturgical Times also offers veils in the "infinity" scarf style and these, too appear to be a welcome solution to a veil that won't stay put.

The photos of veils below are shown courtesy of Liturgical Times Veil Shop.

Christian women veil for many reasons, and more and more we are seeing women in mantillas, even at weekday Novus Ordo Masses.  Because there are so few people in the world who are willing to bear witness to their faith and demonstrate publicly their love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, we encourage all women  to consider wearing an appropriate head covering to Mass, if for no other reason than out of sheer love for One Who loves us beyond comprehension.
